There was going to be a great judgement on the city where Lot lived. The judgement was a rain of fire and brimstone to destroy the entire city. God, in His mercy, sent to rescue Lot and his entire household from the impending inferno. Lot was righteous and hated the sin of the city with passion. He went out to talk to his in-laws about the grace of salvation but they didn’t take him seriously. They willfully stayed back in Sodom and perished in the fires of the judgement.
Throughout history, man has resisted God’s Will. Man has always projected his will against God’s. The end of such contention is destruction. ‘There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, But the end thereof are the ways of death.’ (Proverbs 16:25 KJV)
When it comes to matters of eternal consequence like the salvation of your soul from God’s impending judgement, self-will is evil and a great enemy.
There is a will in man; we appreciate that. As a free moral agent, man has the liberty to choose what he wants to do with his life. That is great! But man must bear the brunt of his choices. Weird?! The love and heart of God beckons on man. His Spirit entreats man. Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son died for man. But, the ultimate decision – for Christ and heaven or for self-will and destruction, comes from man.
God is calling you today. He is saying, ‘Give Me that will’, ‘turn it over to me and I will make something out of you’. Will you? Your eternal destiny depends on that decision.
