Cornelius was a Roman centurion stationed in Caesarea, described in the Bible as a devout and God-fearing man. Despite being a Gentile, he was committed to prayer and acts of charity, and he sought to know the one true God. One day, an angel appeared to Cornelius, instructing him to send for Peter, a disciple of Jesus.
Meanwhile, God prepared Peter through a vision to understand that the message of salvation was not only for Jews but also for Gentiles like Cornelius. When Peter arrived at Cornelius’ house, he proclaimed the Gospel, emphasizing the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins.
As Peter spoke, the Holy Spirit fell upon Cornelius and his household, confirming that God had accepted them. This miraculous event opened Peter’s eyes to the truth that salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by ethnicity or religious heritage.
The story of Cornelius teaches us several lessons about salvation. Firstly, God’s grace is inclusive, available to all who seek Him regardless of background. Secondly, genuine faith in Jesus Christ leads to transformation and the receiving of the Holy Spirit. Lastly, obedience to God’s call, as demonstrated by Cornelius and Peter, leads to salvation. Surrendering our lives to Jesus Christ is the pathway to eternal life and true fulfillment.
