The need to make more sales?
The need to make lots of money?
The need to get married and settled in your own home?
The need to acquire a certificate or some skills?
What is uppermost in your heart?
Banal aspirations.
Those desires are legitimate; very important, even.
We need to be successful, and fulfilled, and to achieve financial independence.
However, as legitimate as these aspirations are, they fade into insignificance in the light of eternity.
How old are you now? Maybe 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, or 70 years. How many more years do you have to enjoy your success? No one knows! We wouldn’t allow the little time that we have left on the earth to ruin the endless life for us. That will not be wise.
What is the message here? In your pursuit of success, do not relegate the matters of your hereafter to the background or chance. You need to stay in charge. Pursue the banal aspirations, but give attendance to the issue of eternity.
You need to be sure that you will spend forever in the right place. Eternity begins in your heart. When you surrender to God’s authority, ask Jesus into your heart, and turn away from your sins and old ways to God’s Will and Way, He imparts eternal life to you so you are enabled to enjoy the blessings of eternal life here on earth and get catapulted into its blast when you eventually close your eyes in death.
